Thank you to CADCA's 2016 NYLI Mid-Year Training Institute

Hello everyone!

Last week I had the incredible opportunity to take part in CADCA’s 15th Annual Mid-Year Training Institute in Las Vegas, Nevada. It was my second year attending CADCA’s NYLI Mid-Year Training. NYLI stands for National Youth Leadership Initiative. Last year, I attended the Key Essentials training, which, by the way, is definitely essential for obtaining guidance as to how to be a strong leader and impact and make a change in your community.

This year, I had the ultimate life changing opportunity to take part in a ToT training. ToT stands for “Trainers of Training” meaning aspiring CADCA trainers who are currently undergoing training for the leadership role. Got it? Great.

During my first ToT training, I was able to learn from the incredible NYLI Trainers who truly put passion into every single thing they do. They are determined, resilient, and hardworking leaders - the three traits that I’ve always aspired to channel as a leader and person. I was able to experience the Key Essentials trainings through a trainer’s perspective and really understand what happens behind the scenes. The trainers have to set up the area for different activities, spend hours prepping to teach the trainees, and maintain a positive attitude. I was given opportunities to help lead energizers, do reviews of essential information, and interact with the altruistic and upbeat youth (and their advisors) who were attending the conference. The trainers were always available to answer questions and take the time to provide guidance.

Not only did I broaden my horizons regarding another branch of creating awareness, but I also formed a passion for this sect of awareness. Being able to interact with people and actually give them the tools to create a difference in their own communities is an amazing feeling. Using my own leadership skills to help others find and nurture their own was an opportunity I don't think I could have been given anywhere else. Forming bonds with the youth and their advisors was an incredible privilege; they share their communities’ stories, their goals, and their visions.

Without any hesitation, I can proudly say that I would love to continue the process of becoming a trainer through ToT trainings. Thank you, CADCA and the NYLI trainers for another unforgettable week! I'm already looking forward to the next training.

The Drug Store Project : Update

In the past year, The Drug Store Project has grown into its own special organization. It is now known as "The Rise Above Projects." The DSP team has held multiple skits in different counties around the Central Valley, from Fresno County to Tulare County. It is interactive with students and packed with great messages that are being sent out to the youth.

Hi everyone! I wanted to share with you a recent trip of mine that, in my opinion, was a life-changing and eye-opening experience. I was given a scholarship by the Tulare County Prevention Coalition to attend CADCA’s NYLI Mid-Year Conference in Indianapolis, Indiana that was held from August 2nd to August 6th.. CADCA stands for Community Anti-Drug Coalition of America. In this conference, I learned the tools of how to be a great leader, thinker, plan developer and initiator. There were people from all over the country. The thing that brought us all together was our passion and need of prevention against substance abuse. Every coalition’s community had their individual problem, but everyone’s objective was to tackle that problem and figure out how we can begin to fix it. CADCA’s NYLY Mid-Year Conference helped me gather the tools that I need to create an impact on a larger level and in bigger communities. I hope you enjoy these pictures of me and a friend of mine, who is also a part of the Tulare County Prevention Coalition, giving a presentation on our community, one of its problem, and how our plan to fix this problem.
